The Truth War
I am quarter way through this book that I recently bought. Though I have some reservations about the tone of the book especially its criticism against the emerging church movement (of which may be true for some but probably be wise not to stereotype too much), much that is written is a timely reminder that truth matters. Or rather, objective truth rules! Particularly in this generation, we need to seriously arm ourselves with sincere faith grounded deeply in the word of God. That is we must know the truth in order to be able to discern the deceptions we are so often vulnerable of. In fact, I was reading 2 Timothy these two nights and would like to share a couple of verses here.
"v14But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, v15and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. "
"v3For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. v4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths."
As in Paul's times, this generation is witnessing a closure of history to be certain. Again and again, God's holy word is being challenged over and over throughout history, yet it stands today. May the brethern then hold on tight to the good old truth in this age of adulterous spirit, and be a beacon of light so that all might see and realise the truth that is at work in our hearts. And as in Proverbs 23:23 says, "Buy the truth and do not sell it."
