"But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander." ~ 1 Peter 3:15-16
Da Vinci Code

Not too sure if anyone here has read or watch the novel or movie. Having reviewed both, I would dare say that the movie is little fast paced and probably would lose half of the audience who are not familiar with the novel by the middle of the movie, and probably left with only a handful of folks with vested interest in religious matters by the end of the movie.

I think most people would wonder why there are some much reactions from the christian circles, after all it is just a movie. This article seeks to explain why it matters so much to the christians and is not primarily written to decode the Da Vinci Code because elsewhere, that kind of work is already wonderfully done.

First of all, ask yourself how would you react if let say someone claims that your Number One Superstar Idol is actually lousy or just plainly acting what he or she isn't on the stage? Naturally, when it comes to the religious matter, things get more complicated and thousand folds more sensitive over. Try eating beef in front of a Hindu and you will get what I meant.

The problem with Da Vinci Code, is that it tries to portray itself as something as innocent as a fiction, and yet at the same time implying and reinforcing that it is more than a fiction, none other less than the truth. It is this double talked that cause a great degree of concern over the christian circles in regards to how this novel and movie might impact the public.

Granted that it's reasonable to think that a disclaimer at the beginning of the movie would probably solve the dilemma christians are facing. But this simply exposed the double standard of the world at large against the christian faith. While the world might be afraid of upsetting the Middle East neighbours with some anti-islamic cartoons, the world generally feel comfortable in offending the christians with all kind of assaults. I guess, just this point, would prove beyond a doubt the challenges the christians are facing from the early centuries till our modern times.

But again, does it necessarily surprise the christians about this anti-Christ feelings towards the end of history itself? I don't think so. In fact, we ought to expect more tribulation and persecution of all kinds as history unfolds. Nevertheless, be rest assured that history itself is His Story and God is and will be triumphant forevermore. It is just a matter of which side you are standing?
